ARE YOU HAPPY WITH YOUR CLASS?

In a little over two weeks, one of the premier Minnesota chess tournaments will be held, the Class Championship. This event is unique in that you are not allowed to play up any sections. But you can use you up-to-date rating if it gets you in a higher section. So you will have three chances at the Castle to boost your class.

November 2-3

Seven games (four on Saturday, three games Sunday), swiss pairings. Time control is game in an hour with a 15-second delay. New this month: 2 sections - Open and U1600. Over $600 in projected prizes! Open (based on 15): 1st-$125, 2nd-$75, U2000-$75, U1800-$75. U1600 (based on 15): 1st-$100, 2nd-$60, U1400-$60, U1200-$60. Advance entry $35 for club members, $40 onsite; non-members pay $5 extra. Two half-point byes for any round must be requested when entering. One day Saturday only option is $18 in advance, $20 onsite for just four games on Saturday. Registration: 9 - 9:50 AM Saturday. Quad #14 The players are divided into groups of four by rating and play three games in a round-robin. Entry fee: $12 if early, $15 at the site, with club members getting $5 off (FM and above play for FREE). Prize: One year of FREE Chess Castle club membership to the winner of the most quads at the end of the year (split on a tie). Onsite Registration: 9:30-9:50 AM. Schedule: round one- 10:00 AM, round two -1:30 (approximate), round three starts 10-15 minutes after the last game of round two. No byes allowed. An inexpensive event for fun and competition, usually done by 6 or 7 PM. House players welcomed. If you register early, you must still check-in by 9:55 or you may not be paired. The lower section is usually rated youths in grades 4-8.

The Sammy Birthday Blitz

Sunday, November 10

How old is Samrug Narayanan? Will there be cake? Are the new, young chess punks (Alice, Troy, etc) going to introduce him to the downside of maturity? Come and find the answers...

12 games, two against each opponent, at a time control of game in five minutes with a three-second delay. This event counts on your USCF blitz rating only. We will open at 1:30 PM and start playing at 2:00PM. Entry fee is $12 for club members, $15 others, with a prize fund of half of the total entries. A three round-robin format at Game in 30 minutes (Game/30). You play players of comparable strength. Registration from 6:30-7:00 pm, Event is typically done by 10:30 pm. You do not need to be a member to play in any Castle event.

Join us on Tuesdays at 6-10 PM for an evening of casual chess. Coffeehouse chess, speed chess, bughouse, analysis, pick-up games or enjoy one of the books from the clubs extensive library. Open to everyone, beginners welcome.

Thursday Knighter Open

Entry Fee: $20, members $15 Prizes: Winners get free or reduced entry next month, with participation counting towards invitation to Club Championship. Swiss, Game/100 with +30 bonus. Onsite Registration: 6:30-6:50 PM first Thursday of the month. Rounds: 7:00 PM each Thursday, check-in by 6:55 or you may not get paired, call 612.964.6673. Directed by Norm Myrin. Thursday Knighter Premier

Same format as Open. Excellent opportunity for higher rated players (must be 1700+) with discount incentives. Minimum of 8 players, otherwise the event merges with the Open. If the event merges with the Open, you can opt for full refund or use your reduced entry for the Open. Entry Fee: if early (U1900 $20), (1900-1999 $17), (2000-2099 $14), (2100+ $11), (FM and above FREE), (All $20 at site), members get $5 off. Byes: one bye if 4-SS, two byes if 5-SS, exceptions at TD's discretion. Other: Check-in by 6:55 each Thursday. Call or text 763-232-9944 if you are running late, or you may not get paired. Exceptions to minimum rating at TD's discretion. Directed by Nate Hoover. TD may require submission of game scores. Event may be broadcast. All proceeds go to the Chess Castle. See Oct Standings.
